Registration Information
Thank you for your interest in WUMC Weekday School. As a non-profit program approved by the Maryland State Department of Education, we are honored that you are considering or have chosen to entrust us with your child’s education and development. Since 1974 the Walkersville United Methodist Church has offered a preschool day program for young children in the community. Our program is based on fundamentals – cutting, pencil grip, letter forming, counting, patterning, 1 to 1 correspondence, following rules, sharing, manners, and ultimately independence. Every craft has a purpose and it is our goal to keep learning fun. For more information about our staff and mission please visit our website at www.walkersvilleumc.org. If you are interested in a school tour, please call 301-845-4282 to set up an appointment with the Director.
WUMC Weekday School Registration Information 2023-2024
Director: Vicky Wilson
A completed registration form and $50 registration fee (per family) are required to enroll your child. Please make checks payable to WUMC Weekday School. Placement information will be sent via Brightwheel. The first month’s tuition payment will be due before or at the first class meeting in September. A supply and activity fee of $50/2 day classes, $75/3-day classes, and $100/5 day classes is due at the start of school.
Classes are filled on a first come first serve basis. Traditionally morning classes are very popular so to make the afternoon classes more appealing we offer a discount for PM classes. We ask that you pay careful attention to the age requirements. However, because we are a private preschool, we have flexibility and can sometimes make exceptions. Although we will make every attempt to place your child in one of the classes you have chosen, we must have some leeway in filling the classes. If needed, we have the ability to make a larger class in certain classrooms while still maintaining our traditional 10 students to 1 teacher ratio by adding a full time teaching assistant. Additionally, we must have a minimum number of children enrolled in certain classes in order for them to operate. If two children from the same family are enrolled, the second child’s tuition is reduced by 20%. All classes are planned to be developmentally appropriate for the ages of the children enrolled. All final registration decisions are at the Director’s discretion.
Below are the details of the classes that we offer:
YOUNG THREES
This is a special class for the older two year old/younger three year old having a first experience away from home. Supervised play, art and craft projects, and alternating quiet and active times are part of the day. Class size is limited to 6 children with one teacher or up to 8 children with a teacher and an assistant teacher. Children will need to turn 3 years old by March 1, 2024. Toilet training is NOT required. T/TH 9-11:30 Tuition is $160 per month.
PROGRAMS FOR THREES
Classes are limited to 8 children. To be eligible for the 3’s class, a child must be 3 years old by September 1, 2023. Students are introduced to letters, name recognition, complete craft projects that focus on fine motor skills, and develop social and behavioral skills. Students should be potty trained. Most of these students should move on to the 3 day pre-k class the following year. T/TH 9-11:30 Tuition is $160 per month.
OLDER THREES
This special class fills a need for older threes who are ready for more demanding activities and a longer day. They will learn how to form letters and numbers and begin to write their name. We use a Zaner-Bloser beginning handwriting program. To be eligible for this class, the child will need to be 3 by March 1, 2023. We recommend these students attend the 5 day pre-k class the following year. M/W/F 9:00-12:00 $230 a month/12:15-3:15 $215 a month.
3 DAY OR 5 DAY PRE K

The child should be 4 years old by September 1, 2023 (exceptions will be made for the 3 day pre k program which will allow students with birthdays after Sept. 1st to enter early – must turn 4 by September 30, 2023). Pre k focuses on beginning letter and sound recognition along with handwriting skills. 3 day pre k: M/W/F 9:00-12:00 $230 a month/12:15-3:15 $215 a month 5 day pre k: M-F 9:00-12:00 $295 a month/12:15-3:15 $280 a month.
TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM
This class of 8 is designed for students who just miss the September 1st FCPS cut off for kindergarten or for those children who have late summer birthdays and chose to stay back for one more year. Trans-K meets M-F from 9:00 – 2:00. Students bring their own lunch. Instruction covers more topics, focuses on improving handwriting, introduces sight words, and encourages higher level thinking. Trans-K uses the Zaner Bloser Kindergarten handwriting workbook. This class allows students to adjust to a longer school day. Students will need to be 5 by December 1, 2023. Tuition is $375 per month.
