There is a place for you in WUMC’s music program!!! We have choirs and instrumental opportunities for ages 3 and up. Our rehearsals will begin the week after Labor Day (except for the Adult Choir) and you are always welcome to be a part of the Music Ministry. Cherub Choir - Our cherub Choir is for ages 3, through 6 (1^st grade). We will meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:00, in conjunction with the Pathways program. This primary choir is informal and allows children to explore music through instruments, games, rhythmic activities, and other creative methods. We share our gifts in worship approximately twice a month.  Parents are encouraged to be available during rehearsals. We will begin rehearsals on Sept 14.

Junior Choir - The Junior Choir invites all children, 2^nd through 5^th grades to come sing praises and learn more about music. The Junior Choir normally sings two Sundays each month rotating the time - once at 9:30 and 11:00 services. We may occasionally vary from this schedule.  Our practice time will also be 6:30 to 7:00 on Wednesdays in conjunction with the Pathways program.  Sharyl Lim will be the director of the Junior Choir!!  Thank you, Sharyl!  We will begin rehearsals on Sept 14.

Youth Choir – Youth meet in the sanctuary on Wednesdays in cooperation with the Ways programs for Middle Schoolers.  We rehearse from 4:30 to 5:00, and do a variety of Christian music.  We work together to choose our music, and we just might occasionally play handbells!  We perform usually once a month in worship at the 9:30 and 11:00 services.  Rehearsals begin on Sept. 14.

For His Glory (FHG) is for any student, High School or older, who has an interest in contemporary Christian music and would be willing to share their gifts.  Both vocalists and instrumentalists are needed.  Rehearsals will be held Sunday afternoons in cooperation with the Youth Ministry programs.  FHG will provide musical leadership at the 11:00 service approximately once a month and at other worship and youth events.  Contact Drew Roderuck for details – (240) 446-7579.

Adult Choir – we will kick off our year with rehearsal on Wednesday, August 31, from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m., followed by our traditional root beer floats.  All adults who love to sing are encouraged to be a part of our Adult Choir – we enjoy singing, learning more about music, and lots of good fun and fellowship.  The choir provides leadership for traditional worship services throughout the year.  Childcare is available in the nursery at no charge.  Rehearsals begin on August 31.

Praise Team – The PT invites all persons of middle school age and up who love to worship the Lord through singing or playing an instrument to join them.  Rehearsals are Thursdays from 7:00 to 8:30.  We lead worship music for the 11:00 service, usually working on 4 or 5 songs to sing with the congregation.  Contemporary Worship Music is one of the fastest growing types and is very exciting.  We welcome singers or instrumentalists (mainly guitar, bass, keyboard, and drums) who have a calling to serve in this area.  (We’ve also added other instruments on occasion.)  Please contact Nancy Mullins at (301)845-6596 or Rich Klemanski at (301)845-2572 for more information or just come to a rehearsal!!  Rehearsals are ongoing.

Handbell Choir – Anyone interested in ringing English Handbells is invited to join.  Some musical knowledge is helpful, but not required.  Handbell rehearsals are a fun way to learn about music and enjoy fellowship with other musicians.  The group practices on Sunday afternoons at 12:30, and they provide leadership in worship approximately every other month at both the 9:30 and 11:00 services all in one day.  For questions and other info, please contact Gene Ashe at (301)845-4264.  Bells begin rehearsals on September 18.

Flute Choir – Our Flute Choir invites all who play or who have played flute in the past to give it a try!  Come be a part of this very unique and inspiring sound!  The ensemble meets once a week for rehearsal, and provides leadership in worship approximately once a month.  Susan Glaspell is the coordinator/director/music arranger.  Please contact her at (301)845-1254.  Rehearsal times are usually Thursdays at 6 p.m. beginning September 1, but are flexible depending on schedules of participants.

WUMC A Capella Ensemble – This is one of our newer groups and we enjoy a wide variety of music styles, but like to sing unaccompanied.  This allows the flexibility to perform in many different settings – not just indoors with instruments.  Rehearsals will run in conjunction with the Adult Choir, to ease participation in both groups.  Details will be in weekly bulletin announcements.

Additional Opportunities: . . . In the plans – a short basic music reading/music theory class to run after Adult Choir rehearsals on Wednesdays for a 6-week period or so, depending on the desires and needs of participants – probably starting in October. 

We welcome any other instrumentalists or vocalists that would like to do solos or be a part of a small ensemble.  We currently have both male and female vocalists, brass, woodwind, and string players that enjoy doing ensemble work.  We always welcome new talent, and encourage participation in worship!  Other possibilities include a liturgical dance choir or a drama group.  Contact Nancy if you are interested!
